PHILADELPHIA – Delaware men's basketball (2-2) erased a 10-point deficit to take down the defending Patriot League Champion Colgate Raiders (4-3), 72-68, in the first-ever game of the Cathedral Classic on Friday. For the first time this season, four Blue Hens tallied double-digit point totals with a pair above 20.
Jyáre Davis led all scorers with a career-high 24 points, topping his previous best of 23. The Newark, Del. native finished 10-of-18 from the floor, including 2-of-5 from deep. The big fella added three assists and two blocks to his line.
Jameer Nelson Jr. joined Davis above 20 points with 23 on an 8-of-17 afternoon. He also snagged six rebounds for second-best on the team.
LJ Owens dropped 12 points going 5-of-9, and a perfect 2-of-2 from long range. The transfer came up with two blocks, including one on the potential game-tying shot with four seconds left.

The Raiders pulled ahead by as many as 10 before the Blue Hens buckled down, tallied four-straight, and held Colgate scoreless for 2:20 for a 25-19 game at the under-four timeout. Delaware pulled within three after finishing the frame with a 7-4 difference to sit down 29-26 at the half.
At the break, Nelson Jr. led all scorers with 12 points as the Blue Hens shot 37.0% from the field compared to Colgate's 42.9%. UD won the turnover battle at +1 with seven points off the Raiders' give-ups.
Delaware took 10 of the first 17 points of the second half that ended with an Owens' triple to tie the game at 36 apiece. After a Colgate bucket, the Hens ripped off a 10-4 spurt over a four-minute span to hold a 46-45 lead at the under-twelve media timeout. The Blue & Gold tallied a 9-5 run to take its largest lead of the day at 58-50. The Raiders pulled within one possession on multiple occasions, but the Delaware defense held steady.
In the second half, the Blue Hens shot a blistering 56.3% (18-of-32) from the field and 75.0% (6-of-8) from three-point range.
Delaware shot 47.5% from the floor to tie its season-high set in the opener against Wilmington. The group ended +1 in turnover margin and +2 in rebounding. The Blue Hens' seven deflections are one more than UD's average of 6.0 blocks per game which ranks 16th in the nation.
