Men’s Basketball Opens December Against Cornell, Davidson

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware men's basketball (3-3) opens the month of December back at home after five consecutive games away from the Bob Carpenter Center, hosting Cornell (5-1) and Davidson (6-2). Tipoff against the Big Red is Thursday at 7 p.m., while the Wildcats come to Newark for a 2 p.m. start.

- Delaware spent the Thanksgiving holiday in the City of Brotherly Love, playing three games in three days at the Cathedral Classic, where it went 2-1.
- Through six games, the Blue Hens are averaging 71.6 points per game, with a pair of players averaging over 16 points per game.
- Delaware's game against Cornell is its second of three games this season against Ivy League opponents.
- Jameer Nelson Jr. was named to the Cathedral Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 22.6 points per game and 4.3 rebounds in the three games, highlighted by a career-high 30 against Penn in the finale. He is scoring at a rate of 19.0 points per game this season.
- Jyáre Davis quietly had a strong Cathedral Classic, averaging 16.6 points and 4.0 rebounds in the three contests, including 24 in the opening win over Colgate.
- La Salle transfer Christian Ray continued his huge presence on the glass this season. He is currently averaging 11.5 rebounds per game, which is fifth in the NCAA, and grabbed 15 rebounds twice during the tournament. The Gap, Pa. native leads the nation in defensive boards per game at 8.8.
- Cornell comes into this contest at 5-1 after an 81-63 defeat of Delaware's CAA foe Monmouth.
- Senior Greg Dolan is leading the Big Red in points per game (13.2), rebounds (5.5) and assists (27) in the young season while also shooting 56.0% from three-point range, making 14-of-25 attempts.
- Nazir Williams, fresh off 11 points against the Hawks, is averaging 10.7 points this season.
- Keller Boothby rounds out the double-digit scorers on Cornell (10.0). A massive 84.9 percent of his shot attempts this season have come from beyond the arc.
- Davidson enters at 6-2 after a close 68-66 loss at the hands of Charlotte on Tuesday.
- Foster Loyer is having another solid season, averaging 22.6 points through eight games which includes a 38-point outburst against Wright State on Nov. 9.
- Sam Mennenga has made himself known on the court for the Wildcats, averaging 16.3 points and leading the way with 7.0 rebounds per game.
- This is the second time Davidson will face the Blue Hens in as many years.
- This is the second of three games Davidson has against CAA teams. The Wildcats lost to Charleston 89-66 on Nov. 17 and will play Northeastern on Dec. 21 to wrap up the non-conference schedule.
- Delaware has faced the Big Red five times in program history and twice during the Ingelsby era. They are 3-2 against Cornell, having won the last three meetings.
- These two teams last met in Ithaca on Nov. 15, 2018, where Delaware rode a 22-point performance by Kevin Anderson and a double-double by Eric Carter to a 73-56 victory.
- Delaware has played the Wildcats twice, going 1-1, and lost the only meeting under Ingelsby.
- These teams faced off in their respective season openers last year, with Foster Loyer scoring 27 points in a 93-71 win at Belk Arena in Davidson.
