NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware volleyball team closed out its regular season with a decisive sweep (25-16, 25-15, 29-27) over Chicago State (6-15) on the Blue Hens' home finale Wednesday evening inside Bob Carpenter Center. With the win, Delaware (15-10) awaits seeding for the upcoming CAA tournament as conference play wraps up this weekend.
Prior to opening serve, the Blue Hens celebrated their Most Valuable Professors (MVP).

Set two proved to be more of the same as Delaware opened with a 6-1 scoring run. After the Blue Hens took the 10-6 lead, the Cougars scored three-unanswered points to pull within one, 10-9. Lily Rogers then checked in and immediately connected with Ezgi Basaranlar to nail one down igniting a 12-4 Blue Hen run, 22-13. Chicago State pulled within seven, 23-16, before Delaware scored the set's final two points capped by an Eileen Gex ace, 25-16.
Chicago State was determined to extend the match in the third set and was able to take their first lead of the night, 9-8, thanks to Maria Lopez Torres Tapia's kill. The Blue Hens never wavered as a Kirah Johnson kill kickstarted a 9-4 run to regain the lead, 17-13. The Cougars still battled and used an 8-3 run to take back the advantage, 21-20. The seesaw battle commenced and the fans of 253 watched the match go into extra points. The scoreboard was in favor of Chicago State, 27-26, before the Blue Hens scored three unanswered points. The match was capped beautifully by Lani Mason and Johnson teaming up to send Mesalina Severino's attack away for match point and then Johnson so eloquently dusting off Basaranlar's feed to complete the sweep.
