12/21/2022 9:07:00 PM | Men's Basketball
NEWARK, Del. – A season-best ten three pointers weren't enough for Delaware (8-5) as it fell to the hot-shooting Ohio Bobcats (7-5) 95-76 on Wednesday night, snapping its five-game win streak.
The Blue Hens had led by as many as four with a 7-0 spurt, but a 15-0 Ohio spurt over a 5:05 period put the visitors up 24-13 with 10:15 left in the opening stanza following a Delaware timeout. Ohio would stretch its lead to as many as 19, extending it to a 51-34 deficit by the break after a 10-4 run.
Ebby Asamoah led the Blue Hens with 12 heading into the locker room, but it wasn't enough to overcome the visitors shooting 55.6 percent in the first frame, including 53.8 percent from deep with seven triples. The Bobcats doubled the Blue Hens in total rebounds in addition to scoring 13 second-chance points in the first half.
Delaware cut the deficit to 11 in the second half, but couldn't overcome the gap. Ohio ended shooting a scorching 52.4 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range.
Jameer Nelson Jr. led UD's four double-digit point scorers with 20. Asamoah (17), Jyáre Davis (13), and Christian Ray.
Ohio won the rebounding margin 43-29 and dominated the paint with 46 points.
Delaware begins conference play on Thursday, December 29 as Hofstra comes to the BCC for a nationally televised matchup.
