DELAND, Fla. – Behind two home runs apiece from Brooke Glanden and Halle Kisamore, the University of Delaware softball team split a pair of games on Saturday at the Stetson Lead-Off Tournament. The Blue Hens defeated Georgia State 4-1 in the first game before dropping a 3-1 decision to Stetson. With the two results, UD moves to 3-1 on the young season.
Game One: Delaware 4, Georgia State 1
Glanden blasted two home runs and Kailey Christian and Graceyn Frost combined for a three-hitter as the Blue Hens came back for a 4-1 victory.
Glanden finished the two home runs and three RBI, while Kisamore also homered. In the circle, Christian allowed just one unearned run on one hit in four innings to pick up her first win of the season. Frost came on in relief and fired three shutout innings with one strikeout while allowing just two hits for her first career save.
It was Georgia State that opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning as a run crossed the plate on an errant throw.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Glanden led off the inning with an eight-pitch at-bat. She tied the game with a blast well over the center field fence for a solo homer. Two batters later, Kisamore lined the first pitch she saw over the left field fence to give UD a 2-1 lead.
In the sixth, Hanna Garber singled and was on second base when Glanden came up again and shot her second home run in as many innings over the fence in center to bring Delaware's lead to 4-1.
Frost worked around a couple of base runners in the bottom of the seventh to shut the door for her first save.
Game Two: Stetson 3, Delaware 1
The Blue Hens only managed four hits, dropping their first contest of the season.
Emily Winburn fired 5.0 innings, allowing three runs, two earned on six hits while striking out six. Megan Stauffer pitched a scoreless inning in relief with one strikeout.
Kisamore had two of UD's four hits, including her second home run of the season.
Stetson drew first blood with two runs in the third inning on a pair of two-out hits. The Hatters extended their lead to 3-0 with a run in the sixth inning.
Delaware was kept off the board until Kisamore launched her second home run of the day to left field to make it 3-1. That was as close as the Blue & Gold would get, however.
The Blue Hens will wrap up play at the Stetson Lead-Off Tournament on Sunday morning when the squad plays Indiana State at 10 a.m. The two teams opened the tournament on Friday morning, with UD coming away with a 4-3 win.
