Blue Hens Earn Three Bronze Medals on Day One of CAA Championships

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - The Blue Hens got off to a hot start in the 2022 CAA Championship earning bronze medals in the men's 200 medley relay, women's 800 free relay and the men's 800 free relay on the first day of the CAA Championship.
Freshman Philip Townsend advanced to the finals with a score of 221.65 and a sixth-place finish in the 1-meter prelims. Josh Shipley placed second in the B Finals and 10th overall with a score of 195.40.
In the men's 200 medley relay, Gavin Currie, Tonislav Sabev, Simeon Sabev and Miguel Vasquez set a program record with a time of 1:27.11, earning a bronze medal.
Towsend wrapped up the day placing fourth on the 1-meter board with a score of 246.35, just one point away from a podium finish.
Stand-out swimmer Mira Selling closed the gap in the women's 800 free relay, completing the last leg in 1:47.12 to clinch the bronze medal for the Hens. Selling was joined by Natalie Dobrzykowski, Charlise Oberholzer and Anthi Lyra on the podium with the squad coming in at 7:21.57, a top-three program time.
Delaware came away with the bronze once again, as anchor Bryce Ciecko sealed the deal for the Blue and Gold, swimming the last 200 in 1:37.93. Ciecko, Simeon Sabev, Andrew Taylor and Currie completed the relay in 6:37.28, another top-three program time for Delaware.
Both teams are tied third in team standings with the women holding a team score of 62, while the men have a team score of 86.
Tomorrow swimming trials begin at 10 a.m., followed by women's 3-meter diving prelims at 12:30 p.m. Timed finals begin at 6 p.m. Click HERE for the full schedule of events.
