Blue Hens Earn Three Medals, Sabev Sets Another Program Record

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - The Blue Hens earned five medals and set two program records on the third day of the CAA Championships.
Andromachi Tasakou broke the program record in the 100 Breast twice, taking first in the prelims with a time of 1:01.76. She broke the record once more in the finals with a time of 1:01.67, earning the gold medal. Marking the first time a Blue Hen had won the 100 Breast in the CAA Championships.
Tonislav Sabev set his second school record of the championships in the 100 Breast. He first broke the record in the prelims with a time of 53.31. Sabev then earned a silver medal in the 100 Breast finals, setting the program record and breaking the meet record with a time of 52.53.
Freshman DJ Fechtman qualified for the 100 Back with a time of 49.08. He earned his first medal of his career with a third-place finish in the finals with a time of 48.80. Fechtman was joined by Gavin Currie (48.90) and Ryan Polino (49.60) in the 100 Back finals.
Mira Selling earned her fourth career gold medal and second this week in the 200 Free. She earned her second-straight medal in the event with a time of 1:47.67. In the prelims she also placed first with a time of 1:48.11.
On the 3-meter board, Philip Townsend advanced to the finals with a score of 242.10. Townsend then earned a silver medal in the finals boasting a score of 274.05. Josh Shipley earned a first place finish in the B finals and ninth place overall finish with a score of 215.55.
The men's squad moved up to third place with 406.50 points, while the women remain in fifth place with 287 points.
Tomorrow swimming trials begin at 10 a.m., followed by women's 1-meter diving prelims at 12:30 p.m. Timed finals begin at 6 p.m.
