Softball Preview: NC State Invitational

» The University of Delaware softball team travels to Raleigh, North Carolina for the NC State Invitational this weekend. The Blue Hens will open play on Friday morning with a 10 a.m. contest against Bowling Green before playing Central Connecticut State at 5:30 p.m. UD will take on both the Falcons and the host Wolfpack on Saturday before closing out the weekend against NC State on Sunday morning.

» The Blue Hens went 2-3 at the Red and Black Showcase and have a 5-4 record on the season. UD won its first game of the weekend with a 6-5 victory over Purdue in 8 innings on Friday morning. No. 13 Georgia handed Delaware its second loss of the season, 10-3, on Friday evening. The Blue & Gold dropped two more to Boston University, 8-4, and Purdue, 3-2, on Saturday. Delaware came back Sunday with a huge 9-1 win in six innings against the Terriers.

» Bowling Green started the 2022 season with a 4-1 record at the DePaul Dome Tournament with a team batting average of .266. Bailey Sample and Peyton Dolejs lead the Falcons, hitting at .500 and .429 clips, respectively. Greta L'Esperance has scored a team-high seven runs and is a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases. Payton Gottshall leads the pitching staff with a 3-0 record in three starts. She owns a 0.74 ERA in 19.0 innings with 33 strikeouts.

» Central Connecticut State has opened its season with four-straight losses to Hampton and Norfolk State, while batting .265 as a team. Kim Howard leads the Blue Devils with a .455 batting average, while Jazmin Lasane is hitting .429 and Brooke Fedison is at .400. Howard and Fedison have hit the Blue Devils' lone home runs, while Lasane has a team-high six hits. Three CCSU pitchers have combined for a 4.76 ERA and 22 strikeouts.

» NC State is currently 10-1 on the season and has won six-straight games, all at home. The Wolfpack are batting .355 as a team and have hit 13 home runs and 20 doubles while outscoring their opponents 71-18. Kaylee Lambrecht leads six players batting over .300, hitting at a .500 clip with three home runs and 11 RBI. Carson Shaner has a team-high four home runs and is tied with Logan Morris with 10 RBI. In the circle, the Wolfpack own a 1.20 team ERA with 76 strikeouts. Sam Gress and Aisha Weixlmann have four wins apiece, while Weixlmann and Maddie McPherson have 32 and 27 strikeouts, respectively.
