PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Delaware women's lacrosse team (2-5) upset No. 18 Temple (5-3), 11-10, Friday evening in Philadelphia. Lizzie Hsu had a career-high four goals and tallied an assist in the win.

"This was a defining win for this team this year," said head coach Amy Altig. "We have been in a hard stretch of games and they stepped up and gave everything they had. I'm really proud of this group and our staff for adapting and adjusting to get this team win!"

Tonight's win was the first over a ranked opponent since Delaware defeated No. 14 James Madison, 15-12, April 23, 2017.

The Owls got off to a quick start with back-to-back goals by Quinn Nicolai. Danika Swech netted the Blue Hen's first goal of the game and her ninth of the season with 12 minutes left in the first quarter.

Temple was able to score once more in the first period before Delaware answered back. Lizzie Hsu drove to the cage from the right side of the eight-meter firing a shot into the back of the net, to make it a one-goal game.

Swech scored her second goal of the game with under eight minutes remaining in the first quarter to tie the game, 3-3, on a quick-stick shot with a pass from Delaney McDaniel.

Both teams went on a scoring drought that stretched almost 12 minutes between the first and second quarters. The Owls then scored twice to take a two-goal lead.

Hsu netted her second goal of the game, cutting through the eight and finishing a feed from McDaniel. Temple scored three straight goals to stretch their lead, 8-4.

It was Hsu once again to complete a hat trick, dodging through the middle of the eight and finishing her shot. Riley Gillin then scored on a free position shot from the far right hash to make it an 8-6 game going into halftime.

Under one minute into the third quarter, Temple scored before both teams went on a scoring drought once again spanning almost seven minutes.

Hsu scored on a fast break with a feed from Lizzie Yurchak with eight minutes remaining in the third quarter to set a career-high four goals, setting a 9-7 score.

McDaniel made it a one-goal game, cutting around the crease and forcing a feed from Hsu into the back of the net. Temple's Nicolai answered with her third goal of the game to stretch the Owl's lead 10-8.

Lizzie Yurchak made it a one-goal game at the end of the third quarter with a wide shot from the right elbow of the eight-meter.

With just under 13 minutes remaining in the game, Danika Swech scored her third goal of the evening with an assist from McDaniel to tie the game 10-10.

Two minutes left on the clock in Philadelphia, Danielle Livornese cuts through the middle of the eight and receives a pass from behind the goal from McDaniel, scoring the game-winning goal.

Offensively, McDaniel tied Hsu with five points on one goal and a career-high four assists. Swech joined Hsu and McDaniel as an offensive threat with three goals.

Mercy McCarthy started in goal for the Blue Hens, making five stops. Sophia Foohey had a career-high nine saves and boasted a .818 save percentage. Together McCarthy and Foohey had 14 saves and a .583 save percentage.

The Blue Hens have a week off before hosting Saint Joseph's for Senior Day Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m.
