Nelson, Jr. Named Second Team All-CAA, Davis Selected CAA Rookie of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware junior guard Jameer Nelson, Jr. was named to the All-CAA Second Team while freshman forward Jyare Davis was selected the league's Rookie of the Year as the CAA announced its all-conference honorees on Friday.
Nelson, Jr. leads the Blue Hens and ranks sixth in the league by averaging 14.0 points per game, while his 55 steals are tied for the third most in the conference. He has reached double figures in a team-high 23 games, including nine of the last 10 contests.
Nelson, Jr. scored a career-high 30 points in the home win over JMU on Feb. 14, and added 29 against Iona on Dec. 21. He ranks ninth in the CAA with 32.8 minutes played, 10th with a 77.5 free throw percentage and a 38.0 three-point percentage, 14th with 1.7 three-pointers made, and 17th with 5.1 rebounds.
Davis becomes the sixth player in program history to win conference Rookie of the Year honors, and the third in Martin Ingelsby's six years along with Ryan Daly in 2017 and Ryan Allen in 2018. Davis, who won the last five CAA Rookie of the Week awards of the season, exploded during the second half of the year with 10 consecutive double figure scoring games.
Davis ranks fifth in the CAA with a 61.0 field goal percentage, while his 66.1 percentage in league games is the highest in the conference. He posted double-doubles in consecutive wins over JMU and Elon, and scored a season-high 23 points in the final regular season game vs. UNCW.
Aaron Estrada of Hofstra earned the CAA Player of the Year award, while Amari Williams of Drexel was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. Zach Cooks of Hofstra was named Sixth Man of the Year, while Takayo Siddle of UNCW was selected Coach of the Year.
Hunter McIntosh of Elon was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Matey Juric of Drexel won the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award.
Delaware finished the regular season with a 19-12 record, and the Blue Hens are the fifth seed in the CAA Tournament with a 10-8 league mark. UD will take on fourth-seeded Drexel in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.
