Women's Lacrosse Falters at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Delaware women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-6 decision at Georgetown Saturday afternoon.
Georgetown scored the first two goals of the game before Kendra Schweizer got the Blue Hens in the board goal within the first five minutes. Schweizer cut across the eight from the left wing and received a feed from Riley Gillin, forcing the ball into the back of the net with her second goal of the year.
The Hoyas answered back scoring three straight goals, extending their lead to 5-1. On the next possesion, Lizzie Yurchak was cutting into the eight when she recieved a feed from Jenna McHale, netting her third goal of the season.
Georgetown ended the first quarter with one last goal and then went on a five-goal scoring streak to end the first half, setting an 11-2 lead.
Lizzie Hsu scored her sixth goal of the season with a quick stick shot on a pass from Gillin to open the third quarter. The Hoyas then scored back-to-back goals giving them a 13-3 lead.
CAA Rookie of the Week Delaney McDaniel drove to goal from behind the crease with a tuck and roll and fired a shot into the back of the net. This marked her third goal of the season. Georgetown scored two more goals to close out the third quarter, 15-4.
The Hoyas opened the fourth period with another goal to extend their lead. Gillin had a free position shot that was saved, but she picked up the quick rebound and found the back of the net to make it a 16-5 game.
Senior captain Danika Swech scored the final goal of the game, scooping up a ground ball on the 12 and driving to the cage to finalize the 16-6 score.
Delaware's offense was led by Gillin with one goal and two assist. The Blue Hens had six different goal scorers. Goalkeeper Mercy McCarthy made 13 saves and posted a .448 save percentage in the cage.
The Hoyas had the advantage in shots (35-20), draw controls (14-11), caused turnovers (14-6) and ground balls (20-12). Delaware struggled maintaining possession and had 21 turnovers to Georgetown's 10.
The Blue Hens are back in action at home in Delaware Stadium when they host Army at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 9.
