HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Jake Dunion and Nick Vera both homered but Hofstra used a pair of rallies in the middle innings to defeat Delaware, 10-7, in the teams' series opener Friday afternoon at University Field.

Bryce Greenly finished with two hits to extend his hitting streak to 17 games, while seven Blue Hens added a hit apiece. UD starter Chris Ludman took the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) in five innings of work, before Mike Biasiello tossed three frames of relief.

After Hofstra pushed across single runs in the first two frames, Jordan Hutchins put UD on the board by singling home Joey Loynd in the top of the third.

Santino Rosso answered with an RBI single in the bottom half for the Pride, but Dunion blasted a solo homer in the fourth before Vera belted a two-run shot in the fifth to put Delaware in front, 4-3.

However Hofstra answered back with three runs in the bottom half, while a three-run homer by Kevin Bruggeman in the sixth made it a 9-4 game.

The Blue Hens refused to quit, as JJ Freeman cracked an RBI single in the seventh before two runs scored on a fielder's choice as UD clawed back within two. Hofstra added the game's final run in the bottom half when Sean Flaherty doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Joseph Carpenter singled and Dunion walked with two outs in the ninth to bring the potential tying run to the plate, but Pride reliever Aljo Sujak retired Aidan Kane on a deep fly to right to end the game.
