Women's Lacrosse Downs Elon, 13-6

ELON, N.C. - The Delaware women's lacrosse team earned its second-straight conference win after downing Elon, 13-6, Saturday afternoon. Lizzie Hsu tallied a career-high six points with a career-high five goals and adding an assist in the win.
"Another great team win for the Blue Hens," said head coach Amy Altig. "This team continues to get better every day and we are so proud of them today! Our defense made great stops and our attack finished on the offensive end, all around effort from our whole team! This staff continues to work tirelessly to set our team up for continued success."
The Blue Hens (5-9, 2-2 CAA) got on the board first, with Danika Swech scoring in the first 30 seconds. The first quarter was a battle back and forth between the two teams after Elon scored twice to take the lead. Kiera Grant tied the game, 2-2, with an assist from Hsu, followed by another goal from the Phoenix. Sydni Rosa drove down the middle of the eight to the cage in the last 30 seconds of the first quarter to tie the game for the third time, 3-3.
Both teams went on a seven-minute scoring drought before Elon (5-9, 1-3 CAA) took the lead with a goal by Sammy Fisher. Riley Gillin received a quick feed from Lizzie Yurchak to tie the game for the fourth time. Hsu netted her first goal of the day to end the first half, giving the Blue Hens a one-goal lead, 5-4.
Hsu carried her momentum into the second half, scoring the first goal of the third period. Elon's Bella Feldmann scored two straight goals, tying the game for the fifth time before the Blue Hens went on a seven-goal scoring streak to end the game. Hsu scored twice more in the third period to tying her career-high four goals. Swech, Delaney McDaniel and Mae Dickens also scored giving the Hens an 11-6 lead entering the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Swech netted her third goal of the day on an assist from Riley Gillin for Delaware's sixth-straight goal. Hsu ended the game with a career-high five goals after driving through the middle of the eight and beating three defenders to fire off a bounce shot that hit the top-right corner of the net. This marked Hsu's fourth game of the season with three or more goals.
The Blue Hens had eight different goal scorers in the win with Hsu leading the way with her five goals. Swech had three goals while Gillin had three points on one goal and two assists. In the net, Mercy McCarthy notched her fourth-straight game with 10 or more saves, making 10 stops against Elon and boasting a .625 save percentage.
Although Elon had a 28-26 edge in shots, Delaware held a 23-16 advantage in shots on goal. The Blue Hens also had a 19-14 advantage in ground balls and a 12-11 edge in draw controls. Danielle Livornese had nine of the 12 draw controls for the Blue Hens.
Delaware has a week-long break before traveling to Harrisonburg, Va., to play No. 11 James Madison Saturday, April 23.
