Delaware Falls to No. 3 UNCW In Winner’s Bracket Game

ELON, N.C. – The top-seeded University of Delaware softball team dropped a tough 4-2 decision to No. 3 UNCW on Friday morning in a winner's bracket game at the 2022 CAA Championship at Elon's Hunt Softball Park. With the setback, the Blue Hens are 29-15 on the season.
Gracyn Frost started in the circle and pitched 4.2 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out one. Megan Stauffer came on in relief and fired 2.1 innings of shutout relief with three strikeouts.
Halle Kisamore had a pair of doubles and Brittney Mendoza had two hits with a single and a double to
UNCW opened the scoring in the top of the first as a pair of UD errors led to an unearned run. Individual runs in the second and third innings extended the lead to 3-0.
The Delaware bats came to life in the bottom of the fourth inning as Mendoza lined a double off the top of the fence in left-center field with one out. On the very next pitch, Halle Kisamore roped a double into the right-center field gap to switch places with Mendoza and cut the deficit to 3-1.
UNCW answered back in the top of the fifth as a two-out RBI triple made it a 4-1 game.
In the bottom of the seventh, Kisamore led off with her second double of the game and eventually crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Julz Garber. However, Delaware couldn't get any closer as UNCW took the game 4-2.
The Blue Hens will be right back on the field at 3 p.m. in an elimination game against the winner of No. 4 Elon and No. 5 Charleston.
