Four Blue Hens Earn All-CAA Baseball Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Four Blue Hens earned all-conference accolades as the All-Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Teams were announced Tuesday.
Third baseman Joey Loynd was named to the All-CAA first team, first baseman Joseph Carpenter was selected to the second team, and shortstop JJ Freeman and centerfielder Dominic Ragazzo were honorable mention picks.
Loynd started all but one game at third base this season for the Blue Hens, batting .298 while leading the team and tying for third in the league with 45 RBI. He recorded 54 hits on the year while adding 33 runs scored, 12 doubles and eight home runs. Hit 14 multi-RBI games led Delaware, while his 17 multi-hit efforts tied for the team lead. Loynd belted a grand slam against Delaware State, while he hit a go-ahead homer and drove home four runs during the win over Penn.
Carpenter, who earns All-CAA second team honors for the second consecutive year, started all 51 games at first base. He leads the CAA with 19 doubles, while he ranks second with 112 total bases and tied for third with 63 hits. Carpenter batted .310 on the season, ranking second on the squad with 41 RBI and eight homers. Carpenter also tied for the team led with 17 multi-hit games, recording four-hit performances against Iona, Monmouth and Saint Peter's.
Freeman also started every game for the Blue Hens, all but one at shortstop, batting .270 with 54 hits on the year. He ranks seventh in the CAA with 98 total bases, eighth with a team-high nine homers, and ninth with 40 runs scored and 13 doubles. Freeman recorded three-hit games on three occasions, including the victory over Georgetown when he belted a walkoff homer. He crushed a solo homer and a grand slam to finish with five RBI during the second win over Saint Peter's.
Ragazzo started 28 games in centerfield before suffering a season-ending elbow injury vs. Hofstra on Apr. 15. Despite missing the final five weeks of the season, he still tied for the CAA lead and ranked 21st in the nation with five triples. Ragazzo was also fifth in the league with a .322 batting average and tied for fifth with 16 stolen bases. He posted 38 hits, 33 runs scored and 14 RBI, and had three hits in three different games.
