Track and Field Meet Preview: NCAA East Prelims

» A pair of Blue Hens are in Bloomington, Indiana for the NCAA East Prelims on Thursday, being held on the campus at the University of Indiana. Junior Megan Albamonti will compete in the javelin starting at 2 p.m. while graduate student Susanna Weir will run in the 10,000m beginning at 9:10 p.m. Both student-athletes will look to advance to next month's NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

» Albamonti is the eighth Blue Hen in program history to reach the NCAA Preliminary Round in back-to-back seasons. She is currently ranked fourth in the region and sixth in the nation, with a school-record mark of 55.78m in the javelin. She set the new personal best at the CAA Championships where she was named the Most Outstanding Field Athlete earlier this month when she set a meet record to defend her title in the javelin.

» Albamonti will be competing in the third flight of the javelin event. Each flight consists of 16 student-athletes with the top 12 overall advancing to Eugene.

» Weir is the first Blue Hen ever to qualify in the 10,000m, after clocking a school-record time of 34:24.34 earlier this season, which was good enough for 45th place in the East Region. She will be making her first-ever appearance in the East Preliminary Round in her career.

» Weir is one of 48 student-athletes that will be competing in the 10,000m on Thursday evening. The top 12 finishers will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
