Track & Field Set To Compete at the 2022 CAA Outdoor Championships Friday

DEDHAM, Mass. – Looking to hoist its third Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship in program history, the University of Delaware track and field team is prepared to compete in the 2022 CAA Outdoor Championships May 6-7 from Solomon Outdoor Track in Dedham, Mass., hosted by Northeastern University.
The action begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday with the women's javelin and men's pole vault. Additionally, field event champions will be crowned in men's javelin (12 p.m.), men's long jump (1:30 p.m.), women's hammer throw (2 p.m.), women's pole vault (4 p.m.), men's hammer throw (4:30 p.m.) and women's long jump (4:30 p.m.). Running prelims start at 1:00 p.m. and will continue throughout the evening, with the lone final of the day coming in the 10,000m for both the men and women.
The Blue Hens won its most recent title in 2019 before finishing in third place in last year. Megan Albamonti took home the gold medal in the javelin last season and has been reigning supreme all season. She established the top mark in the league this spring, with a program record of 50.64m. Additionally, Susanna Weir broke the Delaware program record in the 5000m with a time of 16:27.68, which is the top mark in the conference. Tina Capparell will headline the 3000m Steeplechase after setting a school record of 10:31.97. Chioma Njoku will lead the way for the Blue Hens in the hammer throw after tossing a program record 57.28m.
The Blue Hens remain among the top contenders in the conference as Elon won the 2021 CAA Outdoor Track and Field team title, marking the fourth different champion over the past four seasons. Towson has finished runner-up the previous two seasons and won the title most recently in 2017.
