Men’s Basketball Stumbles at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Delaware men's basketball (10-8, 2-3 CAA) stumbled at Hofstra (12-7, 5-1 CAA) Saturday afternoon, 86-62.
After trading the first eight points of the game for a 4-4 score, the home team tallied seven of the next nine for a 13-6 lead with 11:49 left in the opening frame. Hofstra snagged a 14-1 run over 3:49 to pull ahead 20-11 before the Hens cut the difference to 13 with 3:16 on the clock. The Pride would finish the period up 37-25.
Five of the seven Blue Hens to play in the half registered a point with a trio leading the team with six apiece. Hofstra recorded eight more points at the line with a 10-of-12 performance compared to Delaware's 2-of-6.
The home team capitalized with 12 points off 11 Delaware turnovers. Both teams shot relatively similar with the home squad leading that category 40-percent to 36-percent.
Hofstra started the second half outpacing the Hens 20-8. Delaware hit back-to-back triples, including the first points from Aleks Novakovitch, to close the gap. The home team held a sizable 60-39 lead with 11:21 left. Hofstra wrapped up the game with an 86-62 score.
Hofstra finished with 21 points off 18 Delaware turnovers and outshot the Hens 49.2 percent to 33.3 percent, including 56.3 percent from long range.
Ebby Asamoah led all Blue Hens with 13 points and was joined in double figures by Jyáre Davis with 10. Davis narrowly missed the double-double with a game-high nine rebounds.
Delaware heads north for a MLK Day matchup at Northeastern on Monday at 6 p.m.
