NEWARK, Del. – Delaney McDaniel and Madison Hranicka of Delaware's women's lacrosse team were named to the CAA Preseason All-Conference Team, the league announced on Tuesday. Delaware was one of five teams in the conference to have multiple players on the Preseason All-Conference Team, joining Stony Brook, Monmouth, Drexel, and Towson.
McDaniel was named CAA Rookie of the Year a season ago, the fifth Blue Hen to receive the honor. She was second in the conference in assists (28) and assists per game (1.65) in 2022, and scored 11 goals to tally 39 total points. She also set the program record for most assists in a single-season by a freshman. She had 10 games last season with multiple assists, which was highlighted by a four-assists, five-point day in a win against nationally-ranked Temple.
Hranicka was an All-CAA First-Team selection last season and has started 26 consecutive games dating back to her freshman year. Hranicka led the Blue Hens with 19 caused turnovers and 30 ground balls in 2022, and was tied for seventh in the CAA in caused turnovers per game with 1.12. On April 23 against No. 11 James Madison, she recorded a career-high in caused turnovers with four. She is also a five-time CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll recipient. She was selected as captain for the upcoming season.
Delaware was picked fifth in the CAA Preseason Poll with 25 points, trailing Stony Brook (49 points, seven first-place votes), Towson (43 points, one first-place vote), Drexel (35 points), and Hofstra (30 points). The Blue Hens were picked ahead of Monmouth (21 points), Elon (13 points), and William & Mary (8 points). Delaware opens the season on Friday, Feb. 10 against Lehigh at home.
