Volleyball Completes Third Straight Sweep In Win Over Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - University of Delaware volleyball completed their third straight sweep in Saturday's road win over Stony Brook (30-28, 25-23, 25-13). It's also Delaware's fourth straight win.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Lani Mason had a game-high tying 10 kills and added five digs, four blocks, and four aces.
- Madelyn Grunza had nine kills, hit .412, and had four blocks.Â
- Savannah Seemans had six kills and a game-high tying 13 digs.Â
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had five kills and a game-high eight blocks.
- Ezgi Basaranlar recorded 26 assists.
- Eileen Gex had 12 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Despite going down 8-1 early in set one, Delaware immediately cut the lead down to 9-8. Stony Brook increased their lead back to 15-10, but another rally by Delaware again made it a one-point game at 16-15.Â
- Delaware tied it for the first time at 20 after back-to-back kills by Grunza and Seemans, then used a 3-0 spurt to take their first lead at 23-22.Â
- Stony Brook took a 26-25 and 28-27 lead, but Delaware scored three straight points to end the set, finished off by a kill by Basaranlar.
- Grunza had a team-best four kills in the set and Basaranlar had 14 assists.Â
- Delaware jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second set, but Stony Brook rallied to cut the lead down to 13-12.Â
- A 5-0 run, highlighted by two aces by Mason, bumped the lead to 18-12. Stony Brook once again rallied, and tied the set at 20 and took a 22-21 lead. Delaware scored the final three points of the set again, with Mason recording two more kills and Basaranlar finishing it off with an ace.Â
- Mason recorded four kills in the set.Â
- Delaware dominated the tail end of the third set to complete the sweep. Both teams went back-and-forth, with the score 11-8 Delaware.Â
- Two straight kills by Mason extended the lead for Delaware to 20-12. They then scored the last five points of the set, with Mason picking up two more aces and Grunza finishing it off with a kill for a 25-13 win.Â
- Grunza and Mason combined for seven kills in the set.Â
GAME NOTES
- Delaware has won 12 consecutive sets dating back to Oct. 1 against The College of Charleston.Â
- Last season, Delaware won 13 straight sets from Sept. 9-Sept. 18.Â
- Grunza recorded her fourth game this season with at least a .400 hitting percentage.Â
- Seemans had her ninth game this season with double-digit digs.Â
- Whitfield-Moss had a career-best eight blocks, the fourth most blocks by a Delaware player in a game this season.Â
