Volleyball Wins Seventh Straight Game In Sweep Over Hofstra

NEWARK, Del. -Â University of Delaware volleyball swept Hofstra in three sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-15)Â to earn their seventh consecutive win. The win streak is Delaware's longest of the season, and they remained undefeated in October. It was also Delaware's sixth match sweep of the season.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Ezgi Basaranlar recorded 28 assists, seven digs, two blocks, and five aces.
- Eileen Gex had a game-best 21 digs.
- Lani Mason recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. She also had three aces.
- Madelyn Grunza had eight kills and a game-high tying six blocks.
- Savannah Seemans had eight kills, hit .292, and recorded four aces. Â
- Kirah Johnson had six kills, hit .333, and had four blocks.Â
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss chipped in three kills and four blocks.
- Amelia Painter recorded nine digs.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Delaware jumped out to a 12-6 lead to begin the match. Hofstra began a comeback and tied the set at 18.Â
- The Blue Hens scored the set's final four points to take the win, with Seemans picking up a kill and two aces and Basaranlar and Johnson blocking the final attack attempt from Hofstra.
- Grunza and Seemans both had four kills in the first, and Basaranlar had 11 assists. Gex had nine digs.
- After Hofstra took a 7-4 lead, Delaware scored the next four points to go up by one. With the score tied at 12, Hofstra pulled out to a 20-17 lead.
- Six straight points by Delaware gave them the lead late in the set. A kill by Mason, a block by Whitfield-Moss and Grunza, and an ace by Basaranlar highlighted the run. Mason and Grunza then both recorded kills to finish off the set.
- Mason had six kills in the set, while Gex had nine more digs.Â
- Grunza gave Delaware a 6-2 lead after a block early in set three. Hofstra rallied to go up 10-9 and 14-12.Â
- The Blue Hens responded with an 8-0 run to go up 20-14. Basaranlar picked up two more aces in the run, while Whitfield-Moss, Mason, and Grunza all had kills. After a point by Hofstra, Delaware ended the match and set with five straight points, with Mason recording a kill and two aces to close it out. Delaware scored 13 of the final 14 points to end the match.
- Johnson had three kills in the final set, while Basaranlar had nine assists.
GAME NOTES
- Mason recorded her 12th double-double of the season and her third straight.
- Mason now has 1,395 career kills.Â
- Gex recorded her third game this season with at least 20 digs and eighth of her career. She also recorded her third career kill, and her second in the last three games.Â
- Gex's 21 digs were the most in a three-set match for Delaware since Andie Hanus had 32 on Oct. 25, 2019 against UNCW.Â
- Basaranlar's five aces were the most she's had in a game since having seven on Sept. 25, 2021 against Elon. It also tied a season-high in a game by a Blue Hen this season, done by Mason on Oct 7 against Northeastern and Seemans against The College of Charleston on Oct. 1 and Robert Morris on Oct. 27,Â
- Basaranlar upped her career assist total to 3,587.Â
- Grunza tied her career-high in blocks with six, also done on Sept. 1 against Tarleton State.Â
- Delaware's seven consecutive wins is their longest since winning nine straight last season, from Sept. 9-Oct. 3. Their seven consecutive wins against CAA opponents is their longest since winning 14 straight from Oct. 3-Nov. 21, 2010.Â
