Volleyball Extends Win Streak To Eight With Reverse Sweep Victory

WILMINGTON, N.C. - University of Delaware volleyball completed their third reverse sweep of the season (22-25, 16-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-9) and second in as many weeks to earn their eighth consecutive win.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Lani Mason had a game-high tying 17 kills and added three assists and seven digs.
Savannah Seemans had nine kills, four aces, and 20 digs.
Asia Murray had four kills, hit .333, and recorded two solo blocks.
Madelyn Grunza recorded nine kills.
Kirah Johnson had eight kills.
Eileen Gex had 14 digs.
Ezgi Basaranlar recorded 23 assists and eight digs.
Lily Rogers had 15 assists and two aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET

Delaware fell behind 5-1 to begin the set, battled back to tie it at seven, but fell behind again and trailed 17-12. Two aces from Mason and kills by Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss and Seemans brought Delaware within a point.
With Delaware down 22-21, UNCW scored three of the final four points of the set to take it.
Seemans had three kills in the set.

SECOND SET

UNCW quickly took control of set two and went up 14-5.
Two kills and a block by Johnson brought some momentum to Delaware and cut the lead to 16-10. Delaware was unable to cut into the deficit anymore and fell behind 2-0.
Grunza and Johnson had three kills each in the set, while Seemans had five digs.

THIRD SET

Delaware's comeback began in the third, and they turned a 6-5 deficit into a 10-7 lead to open the set. Two kills each by Seemans and Grunza helped Delaware push the lead to 16-10.
Two more kills by Seemans and a pair by Mason helped Delaware close out the set, 25-17.
Seemans and Mason both had four kills in the third.

FOURTH SET

UNCW jumped ahead 14-8 to open the fourth. Delaware was able to make up ground after a block from Murray, a kill from Grunza, and an ace by Rogers made it 15-12.
An 11-0 scoring run by the Blue Hens catapulted them to a 23-16 lead. Seemans had two aces and a kill in the run, while Murray had two kills and a block to help Delaware close out the fourth and force a fifth set.
Mason tallied four kills in the set, while Seemans had seven more digs.

FIFTH SET

Delaware scored the first four points of the deciding set and maintained an 8-3 lead after three kills by Johnson. Kills by Mason and Seemans put Delaware up 11-5.
UCNW cut the lead to 12--9, but an ace by Seemans and kills by Anna Logan Gillens and Mason closed out the set and match.
Mason added four more kills in the final set.

GAME NOTES

Mason had her 17th game this season with at least 15 kills, and now has 1,412 career kills.
Seemans recorded her second game this season with at least 20 digs and the sixth of her career.
Delaware's eight consecutive wins is their longest since winning nine straight last season, from Sept. 9-Oct. 3. Their eight consecutive wins against CAA opponents is their longest since winning 14 straight from Oct. 3-Nov. 21, 2010.
This was Delaware's third win in reverse-sweep fashion this season, having also done so on Oct. 1 against The College of Charleston and Oct. 21 against Hofstra.
Delaware is now 5-1 in matches that go five sets this season.
Delaware improved to 30-16 against UNCW all-time.
Delaware's 11-0 run in the fourth set was their second 11-0 run of the season, having also done so on Sept. 2 against Lamar.
