Cross Country Competes at 2023 CAA Championships

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – All eyes were at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va. Friday morning for the 2023 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Cross Country Championships. The University of Delaware cross country squad competed with the best of the best in the conference and finished in seventh place out of 13 teams headlined by a trio of Blue Hen athletes setting monster personal-best 6K times.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
The Blue Hens will shift gears to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. Friday, Nov. 10 from Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The Women's 6K race is slated to start at 12 p.m.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- As a team, Delaware racked up 203 points to finish in seventh place
- For the second consecutive race, Molly Lashley set the pace being the first Blue Hen to cross the finish line with a new PB time of 22:03.7 to place 26th overall. The Millville, Mass. native beat out her previous PB time of 22:40.5 to place fourth overall, one that she just set two weeks ago at the Delaware Invitational (Oct. 13).
- Right behind Lashley three spots down in 29th place was Danielle Eshelman, who also ran a new PB time of 22:09.1.
- Lindsey Volkman (22:52.4) and and Marissa Dailey (23:23.6) followed behind Eshelman placing 46th and 61st overall, respectively.
- Tiffany Herrera rounded out the Blue Hens' scoring five by using a time of 23:44.3, which was good enough for 67th overall.
- Elon was crown CAA champions for the fifth consecutive season by a score of 36.
- Northeastern's Abigail Hassman took home individual medalist and was named the meets Most Outstanding Performer with a time of 21:03.5.
- Stony Brook (55), Northeastern (78), William & Mary (98), Monmouth (112), Charleston (164) and Delaware took the top seven places and finished in respective order.
- Also competing in the Blue Hen uniform at champs were:
- Nicole Re, 23:48.7, 70th overall
- Leah Clear, 23:59.2, 77th overall
- Stephanie Herrera, 24:14.3, 83rd overall
- Hannah Smalley, PB-24:29.6, 87th overall
- Previous PB-25:23.3, set at Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational (Sept. 15)
- Carolyn Coletti, 24:35.6, 88th overall
