Monath Tabbed CAA Rookie of the Year; Four Others Honored with End of Year Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware men's soccer freshman Richard Monath has been named the CAA Men's Soccer Rookie of the Year, joining four other Blue Hens receiving end of year accolades, the league announced Wednesday. Reigning CAA Rookie of the Year Sam Donnellan (First Team), Monath (Second Team, Rookie Team), T.J. Hastings (Second Team, Rookie Team), Carlos Fernandez (Second Team), and Jan Schroeder (Rookie Team) mark this year's cohort of honorees.
Monath led a stellar Delaware freshman class that features three of the 10 CAA All-Rookie selections. The midfielder from Maryland leads CAA rookies with six assists and added four goals for a total of 14 points.
Donnellan followed up a successful campaign last season with nine goals in 2023 to lead the Blue Hens and rank third in the CAA. He started 16 of the 17 games played this season and finished with four assists for a total of 22 points.
Hastings tallied nine points off three scores and three helpers as he played a pivotal role on defense for the Hens. The Middletown, Delaware native started 16 of his 17 games played.
Fernandez had his best season to date, accumulating 18 points off eight goals and a pair of assists. He led the Hens with three game-winning goals and ranked sixth in the league in points.
Schroeder made 15 starts in 17 games played and finished tied with a team-high six assists. He added one goal for a total of eight points.
Delaware earned the fourth seed in the 2023 CAA Championship and will take on fifth-seeded Drexel on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Hempstead, N.Y.
