Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep Of Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. - University of Delaware volleyball completed a big weekend sweep of Northeastern, winning in three sets (25-16, 25-23, 25-23) for the second consecutive day. With the two wins, Delaware moved up into a tie for third place in the CAA standings at 5-3, and one game behind Towson and William & Mary.Â

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Lani Mason had a game-high 12 kills and added 10 digs.
- Kirah Johnson had 10 kills, hit .389, and recorded four blocks.Â
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had seven kills and hit an even .500.
- Ezgi Basaranlar recorded 34 assists, 10 digs, and three kills.Â
- Savannah Seemans had eight kills and three aces.Â
- Madelyn Grunza had seven kills.Â
- Eileen Gex had a game-high 11 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- The score remained close early on, with Northeastern cutting Delaware's early lead to 11-8.
- Delaware ripped off eight straight points to take control of the set and lead by 11.Â
- Delaware had a .500 hitting percentage in the opening set, with Johnson recording five kills and Mason recording four. Basaranlar had 14 assists.
- Northeastern struck first in the second set, leading 8-1 early extending their lead to 12-4.Â
- Delaware rattled off six straight points to jumpstart their comeback, and 12 of the next 14 points to take a 16-14 lead. Mason had four kills and an ace during the stretch, Whitfield-Moss had three kills, and Hannah Wright had an ace.Â
- Northeastern would go on a 5-0 run to take a 20-17 lead, but Delaware battled back again with their own 5-0 run to lead 23-21, and Mason recorded the final point of the set with a kill to put Delaware up 2-0.
- Mason had six kills and hit .545 in the set, while Whitfield-Moss had four kills.Â
- Delaware quickly took control in the third set, leading 8-2 and 12-3.
- Northeastern eventually cut Delaware's lead to 14-11 and 17-15, but never came within closer of two and Delaware completed the sweep.
- Seemans led the way in the final set, with five kills and a .455 hitting percentage. Basaranlar had 11 assists.Â
GAME NOTES
- Mason recorded her ninth double-double of the season.
- Basaranlar now has 3,446 career assists.
- Whitfield-Moss had her second straight game with a .500 hitting percentage.Â
- This was the first time volleyball swept two straight CAA road matches since Sept. 24 and 25, 2022 against Hampton.Â
