Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day With Sweep Over North Carolina A&T

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball celebrated Senior Day with their 11th consecutive victory (25-21, 25-12, 25-21) in a 3-0 sweep over North Carolina A&T. Delaware finished the home portion of their schedule at 10-3, including five straight wins at Bob Carpenter Center to finish out their home year. The victory was also Delaware's 20th of the season.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Madelyn Grunza recorded 10 kills, hit .533, and had four blocks.
Lani Mason also had 10 kills and added eight digs.
Ezgi Basaranlar had 32 assists, three blocks, and six digs.
Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had five kills, hit .333, and recorded seven blocks.
Kirah Johnson recorded five kills, hit .333, and had three blocks.
Savannah Seemans recorded six kills and five digs.
Amelia Painter had eight digs.
Eileen Gex had nine digs.
Delaware held N.C. A&T to a -.022 hitting percentage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET

After a back-and-forth affair to begin the match, N.C. A&T used a 5-0 run to take a 14-9 lead. Delaware rallied to cut the deficit to 16-15 after two kills by Mason and a kill and a block by Whitfield-Moss, with Grunza assisting.
Four straight points by Delaware turned a two-point deficit into a two-point lead at 22-20. Delaware scored the last three points of the set, with Seemans recording an ace to end it, to secure a come-from-behind set win.
Mason and Grunza each had four kills in the first, and Basaranlar had 12 assists. Gex had six digs in the first.

SECOND SET

After back-to-back kills by Grunza and a block from Grunza and Whitfield-Moss, Delaware went up 8-3 to begin the set. N.C. A&T scored four straight points, but Delaware went on a 9-0 run to go up 17-7. Delaware got a kill each by Mason, Grunza, Seemans, and Whitfield-Moss, blocks by Whitfield-Moss and Seemans and Whitfield-Moss and Grunza, and an ace by Mason during the run.
After the Aggies recorded a kill, Delaware scored seven of the next eight points to take a 24-9 lead, totaling a 16-2 run. Delaware was able to finish off the set after three straight N.C. A&T points.
Grunza had four kills in the second, while Basaranlar had eight assists.

THIRD SET

Delaware led 11-6 nearly midway through the third set, and maintained a 14-9 lead. Delaware scored four of the next five points after N.C. A&T cut the lead to two.
The Aggies attempted another comeback by cutting the lead to 23-20, but two kills by Seemans ended the set and match.
Mason added four more kills in the set, and Basaranlar had 12 assists.

GAME NOTES

Mason now has 1,452 career kills. She hit .340 for the weekend with 24 kills.
Basaranlar upped her career assist total to 3,716.
Grunza had her second game this season with double-digit kills and a hitting percentage of at least .500. She had 18 kills and hit .484 against N.C. A&T.
Whitfield-Moss' seven kills were the second most she's had in a game in her career. She had eight against Stony Brook on Oct. 14.
Delaware's -.022 hitting percentage allowed was their best in a single-game since allowing a -.056 percentage against University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Sept. 4, 2021.
Delaware's 11 consecutive wins and 11 consecutive wins against CAA opponents is their longest since winning 14 straight from Oct. 3-Nov. 21, 2010.
Delaware has won at least 20 games in a season for the first time since 2011, when they went 21-13 before falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
