Njoku Takes Home CAA Field Athlete of the Week Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – After putting together another record-setting performance for the second-straight time during the indoor season, senior thrower Chioma Njoku was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Field Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday morning by league officials.
The Newark, Del. native headlined the weight throw for the Blue Hens at the Big Apple Invitational Saturday (Feb. 11). After throwing the weight three times, it was lucky number four for Njoku, as she saw her weight fly through the air for a new school- and personal-best record of 20.15m (66' 1.5") to win the event. Njoku once again surpassed her own school record throw of 19.20m (63'), a mark she achieved just a week ago at the Scarlet Knight Open (Feb. 3-4).
Njoku is the second CAA student-athlete to throw over 20m this season as she established the second mark in the league. Her throw leads the way in the Mid-Atlantic Region and is 37th overall in the NCAA.

Njoku and the Blue Hens will return to action on Feb. 22-23 to compete in the first-ever CAA Indoor Track & Field Championships inside the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
