Red-Hot Three-Point Shooting Guides Towson to Win Over Men’s Basketball

TOWSON, Md. – Towson (18-10, 10-5 CAA) shot a red-hot 72.7 percent from long range with 16 makes Thursday night as Delaware men's basketball (13-15, 5-10 CAA) fell on the road 95-72.
Delaware jumped out to a 7-2 lead before the home team tallied 10 unanswered to pull ahead 12-7. The Hens would add one more bucket to make it a 12-9 ball game at the initial media timeout at 15:44. The Tigers used a 21-4 advantage over 7:35 to sit ahead 33-13 with 8:26 remaining in the initial period. The Hens flipped the script, ripping off a 13-2 spurt to cut the deficit to nine with just under four minutes to go. The half ended with the home team up 42-33.
Towson doubled UD's nine rebounds to hold an 18-9 margin at the break, including 8-1 on the offensive end for 11 second-chance points.
Delaware shot 56-percent in the opening period with the Tigers at 51-percent, although Towson hit five more field goals than the Hens.
A 16-4 differential over the opening 5:52 of the second half pushed the Tigers back up 58-37. The Tigers at one point would connect on 14 field goals in a row during the second half to aid in the victory and 53-39 lopsided half.
The Tigers out-shot the Blue Hens 62.9 percent to 46.6 percent, including the 72.7 percent to 28.6 percent from deep. Towson also held a 34 to 20 rebounding margin.
Nicolas Timberlake finished with a game-high 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting, going 7-of-10 from deep.
Four Blue Hens scored in double figures, led by Christian Ray and Cavan Reilly with 15 apiece. Reilly's 15 tied his career mark. Jameer Nelson Jr. (12) and Jyáre Davis (10) rounded out the cohort.
Ray added a game-best seven rebounds to his line, while Nelson snagged four steals.
Delaware returns to the Bob for one final game this season as it honors its seniors on Senior Day this Saturday at 4 p.m.
