COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of Delaware softball team could not find the game-tying hit as it dropped its third-straight game at the Carolina Classic, falling 3-2 to Campbell on Saturday morning. With the setback, the Blue Hens slip to 4-4 on the season.

Emily Winburn fired her second complete game in as many days, and her third of the season, as she allowed just one earned run on four hits while finishing with a season-high eight strikeouts. Hanna Garber had two hits to lead the offense while Kiara Mills and Katie Scheivert were each on base twice with a single and a walk.

Campbell jumped on the board first in the top of the first inning, scoring a pair of unearned runs on a passed ball and a throwing error.

The Blue Hens immediately cut the deficit in half as Garber led off the bottom of the first with a bunt single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single by Brittney Mendoza to make it 2-1.

Delaware put runners on base in three of the next four innings, but could not score the tying run. The Camels made it a 3-1 game with a run in the top of the fifth.

In the sixth, two walks and a single loaded the bases with nobody out. A sacrifice fly by Chloe Blantz made it a one-run game at 3-2, but that was as close as the Blue Hens could get as they left the tying run on third.

Delaware will wrap up action at the Carolina Classic on Sunday morning when the Blue Hens take on George Washington at 10 a.m.
