NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware women's basketball junior guard Tara Cousins was named to the 2023 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday (Feb. 21). This recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom, with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Cousins, Delaware's SAAC President, is currently majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Africana Studies and most recently earned a spot on the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. She brings her stellar performance in the classroom on to the court where she dubbed a team captain and the floor general. This season, the Washington, D.C. native has scored in double figures 12 times this season (current streak: five games), including pouring in a season-best 15 points on two separate occasions and dished out a career-best eight assists against American (Dec. 21). In 22 starts, Cousins is averaging 8.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per contest as the Blue Hens have four games left in the regular season, eyeing to defend their Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title in the upcoming conference tournament.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced mid-March. Voting for the Academic All-America women's basketball teams begins today at noon ET and closes Tuesday, February 28, at 11:59 pm ET. All CSC members are eligible to vote on the ballots in their division. To vote, go to www.collegesportscommunicators.com/awards.
