Men's Swimming & Diving Earns Three Medels And Sets Three Program Records During Day Three Of CAA Championships

HAMPTON, Va. - Delaware men's swimming & diving set three more school records and recorded three podium finishes on day three of the CAA Championships. Their night was highlighted by a silver medal finish by Toni Sabev in the 100 breast, where he set the Delaware program record with a time of 51.96. Gavin Currie also took home a silver, finishing in second in the 100 back with a time of 46.90. In the 3-meter dive, Philip Townsend placed second as well, finishing with an NCAA Zone Cut mark of 334.35.
The 200 free relay team of Matvei Namakonov, Sabev, Miguel Vasquez, and Luke Rautzhan recorded a Delaware program record time of 1:19.91 and finished in fourth place. During the race, Namakonov set the Delaware 50-free program record with a time of 20.11.
Also in the 100 back, DJ Fechtman finished in fourth place with a time of 47.68, Ryan Polino finished in ninth place with a time of 49.05, and T.J. Yaglenski finished 15th at 49.92. Andrew Taylor finished with a time of 3:53.83 in the 400 IM, good for fourth place. Jack Hattery took ninth (3:54.64), Dylan Smolders finished in 11th (3:55.76), Jack Gibson in 15th (4:00.28), and Jack Zapp in 16th (4:06.42). Luke Rautzhan finished in ninth place in the 200 free (1:38.95). Also in the 100 breast, Namakonov took ninth with a time of 54.29 and Gibson finished 16th (56.53). In the 100 butterfly, Polino finished in 14th (48.95) and Yaglenski finished in 15th (49.30). Kevin Siegfried finished in fifth place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 306.05.
Delaware currently sits in third place with 416 points, behind UNCW (617) and Towson (443) heading into the final day of competition tomorrow night. They remain ahead of Drexel (367), William & Mary (269.5), and Monmouth (171.5).
Tomorrow's preliminaries begin at 10:00 a.m., while diving preliminaries begin at 12:30 p.m. Finals are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
