RICHMOND, Va. – Jameer Nelson Jr. and Jyáre Davis each landed on All-CAA Teams, with Nelson being named to the All-CAA First Team and All-CAA Defensive Team and Davis tabbed All-CAA Third Team, the league announced Thursday. The yearly accolades were voted on by the CAA's 13 head coaches.
Nelson Jr. tallied his best collegiate season as he led the CAA in points, steals, points per game, and steals per game. The Haverford, Pa. native averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.5 steals per outing while shooting 45.1 percent from the field.
He became just the second Blue Hen to tally consecutive 30-point performances since at least 1990 when he dropped a nine-year Blue Hen-best 39 against UNCW and 30 at NC A&T. A three-time CAA Player of the Week, Nelson Jr. tallied his thousandth collegiate point and thousandth point at Delaware, ranking 33rd in program history.
Starting in all 27 games he has played this season, the guard has the fifth-longest double-digit point streak in program history at 27. He has registered 15 20-point outings and four 30-point games. Landing on the Oscar Robinson Trophy Watch List, Nelson Jr. has reached the 15-point plateau in 24 of 27 games, including 19 of his last 20.
Davis, who finished second on the team in scoring and rebounding, finished his sophomore season with 15.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per outing. Starting all 29 games he has played, the Newark, Del. native had the second-best field-goal percentage on the team at 47.3 percent.
A two-time CAA Player of the Week, Davis posted career highs in points, assists, blocks, steals, field goals, field goal attempts, three-pointers, three-point attempts, free throws, and free-throw attempts this season. He notched 20 points or better seven times and at least 10 in all but three games.
