RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware track & field team was recognized Thursday afternoon by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with a trio of 2023 indoor All-CAA selections. Senior pole vault Bridget Joyce and classmate thrower Chioma Njoku both took home silver medals while fifth year senior distance runner Autumn Sands earned bronze medals to earn the all-conference nod. The league honors the top three finishers from each event at the 2022-23 CAA Indoor Track & Field Championship will All-CAA accolades.
In the inaugural indoor championship, Joyce opened up day one on Wednesday (Feb. 22) with a strong outing in the pole vault. The Horsham, Pa. native entered the event with a mark of 3.53m and seeded in 11th place and then obliterated the mark with a PR of 3.70m to earn a second-place finish.
Anticipation was high in the weight throw as Njoku was set to lead the way for the Blue Hens on Wednesday. After tossing a program record and second place seed mark of 20.15m, Njoku's second toss of 19.35m proved to be good enough to finish in second place.
The 5000m race was the last individual running event left on deck and Autumn Sands was all over it. Sands closed out day one for the Blue hens by taking third place with a time of 17:01.09.
