Hutchen Selected As WBCA Thirty Under 30 Honoree
3/20/2023 11:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement. This is the eighth year of the WBCA Thirty Under 30 program.
"I am incredibly honored to be recognized by the WBCA," said Hutchen. "I'm thankful for everyone who has given me an opportunity to pour back into the women's basketball community. There is still so much work to be done and I look forward to continuing to help the game grow."
Hutchen recently completed her first season on the Blue Hen bench as the team's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. She helped the Blue Hens to a 16-14 record, highlighted by a B1G win over Illinois, which was third time in three seasons that Delaware walked away with a win over a Power 5 school, and a second round appearance in the 2023 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament. Under her watch, senior center Klarke Sconiers earned Third Team All-CAA honors and junior guard Tara Cousins took home the league's most prestigious award in the Dean Elhers Leadership award. Delaware was an offensive threat as the Blue Hens averaged 66.0 points, logged 80-plus points in three different contests and had seven 70-plus point performances this season.
"Bri is very hard-working, passionate, loyal and committed," said head coach Sarah Jenkins. "I am very grateful to have her on our team. This is so well deserved."
The Baltimore, Md. native arrived to Newark after spending a season at George Washington University and three seasons (2018-21) at Stony Brook serving under head coach Caroline McCombs as an assistant coach. With the Seawolves, Hutchen helped lead the program to a 66-17 overall record while hoisting up the 2020 America East Regular Season Championship and the 2021 America East Tournament Championship earning the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament appearance. She assisted in the development of seven all-America East honorees and during the 2018-19 season, the Seawolves broke two program records in single-season 3-pointers and assists and earned its first victory over a Power Five opponent. Hutchen also served as the program's liaison for the Black Student-Athlete Huddle Committee.
Prior to Stony Brook, Hutchen spent three seasons on staff at Iona College (2015-18) serving in the capacity of director of operations for two years before being promoted to assistant coach prior to the 2017-18 season. During her tenure, Hutchen assisted with practice and scouting, film breakdown, recruiting and camp coordination.
The CAA is represented by Hutchen and Drexel's assistant coach Jillian Dunston.
