Greenly, Atiya Silence Charleston, Baseball Takes Series Opener

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware baseball (11-14, 3-4 CAA) grabbed the series opener from Charleston on Friday thanks to the pitching staff allowing just four hits and the offense scoring double digits, beating the Cougars 10-2.
Delaware's Bryce Greenly knocked in a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly after a Dan Covino triple, helping himself out as the game's starter. Greenly allowed just one run on two hits in five innings, striking out five.
"I felt good today," Greenly said. "My pitches felt good coming out of the hand, I led off the first inning with a four-pitch walk, and I had to lock in after it, but I felt good after that."
The Hens added three more runs in the third inning against Charleston starter Ty Good, as Brett Lesher smoked a home run over the left-field foul pole and Aidan Kane drove in a run with a single to make the spread 4-0.
Eli Atiya relieved Greenly and tossed four innings of one-run ball, striking out four.
"We had Eli's back, we know what he can do," Greenly said. "He's been doing great all year, he just had one little hiccup there, but we had his back. I'm happy I got to pitch in front of him."
The Blue Hens scored six runs in the final three innings to stretch the lead to eight, and Atiya closed out the second-place Cougars in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
Dan Covino recorded four hits and two RBIs, while JJ Freeman, Greenly and Jake Dunion each drove in multiple runs.
The second game is Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
