RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware baseball catcher Tyler Leach was named CAA Co-Player of the Week following his performance during Delaware's 5-0 week, the league announced on Monday.
Leach becomes the third Delaware player to earn this honor following Joey Loynd (Feb. 27) and Dan Covino (Apr. 3).
The catcher had a power surge during his four games this week, batting .467 (7-15) with three home runs, six runs scored and 11 RBIs as Delaware beat Saint Joseph's, George Washington and earned a series sweep of North Carolina A&T.
He started the week going 2-for-5 against Saint Joseph's, driving in a pair of go-ahead runs in the contest.
Leach followed by hitting two home runs during Friday's game, smacking a two-run shot in the seventh and a go-ahead three-run shot in the eighth as Delaware came from behind to stun North Carolina A&T 8-7.
Not to be outdone in the series finale, with his travel team (US Elite) in attendance, Leach came up with the bases loaded and deposited a grand slam to left field to help Delaware to an 11-4 win.
Leach now has four home runs, 24 RBIs and is batting .293 on the season.
Delaware will play Rider in the Liberty Bell Classic Championship on Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park.
