WILMINGTON, N.C. – Delaware baseball (20-18, 9-7 CAA) suffered its second consecutive loss, falling on the road at UNCW (11-4, 22-14) by a score of 7-3 on Friday.
In what was initially a pitcher's duel, Bryce Greenly allowed a run in the first inning, but worked around trouble until the fifth, allowing a three-run home run to end his night.
Anthony Gubitosi relieved him and extended his streak to 6.1 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
Greenly helped himself at the plate in the top of the sixth, driving in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.
After a UNCW home run in the seventh, defending CAA Co-Player of the Week Tyler Leach clobbered a two-run home run down the left-field line to make it 6-3. UNCW added a run in the eighth.
Jack DiLeo pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, fanning two batters. Despite this, Delaware did not come from behind in the ninth, losing the series opener 7-3.
Leach drove in a pair of runs, while Andrew Amato recorded the only multi-hit effort for the Blue Hens in the loss.
The second game of the series is Saturday. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
