Offense Silenced in Baseball’s Loss at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Delaware baseball (20-19, 9-8 CAA) scored just one run on six hits in a close 2-1 loss to UNCW (23-14, 12-4) on Saturday.
Tyler Leach continued his strong stretch at the dish, homering for the second straight game and sixth time this season to give Delaware an early 1-0 lead.
Joey Silan dueled UNCW starter Zane Taylor, firing seven strong innings, allowing runs on a sacrifice fly and RBI groundout. UNCW took the lead in the fifth and never surrendered it.
The Blue Hens had chances in the seventh and eighth innings but did not score a run, going quietly in the ninth in a 2-1 loss.
This is the third straight loss for Delaware. Silan struck out three in his outing, while Wyatt Nelson fired a scoreless eighth in relief. Joey Loynd was the only Blue Hen with multiple hits.
The series finale is Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Delaware will look to avoid the sweep with Nate Rolka on the mound.
