Baseball Drops Midweek Contest at Saint Joseph’s

MERION STATION, Pa. – Delaware baseball (20-21, 9-9 CAA) was shut down by the Saint Joseph's (16-19, 7-5 A-10) pitching staff on Tuesday, dropping the game 5-2.
The Hawks struck early against Tyler Strechay, scoring twice in the first inning, but the starter limited further damage over the next two frames.
Joey Loynd drove in a pair of runs on his 16th double of the season in the third inning, tying the game up after drilling the ball into the left-field corner.
The Hawks answered right back with three runs in the fourth inning to make it a 5-2 game, which would stand for the remainder.
The Delaware bullpen allowed just two hits after the fifth inning, striking out six Hawks.
Delaware got runners on second and third in the ninth but did not cash in, losing 5-2.
JJ Freeman had multiple hits, while Dan Covino drew three walks and was on base four times. Wyatt Nelson struck out three batters in relief.
The Blue Hens have an important three-game set with William & Mary over the weekend, beginning on Friday night.
