Baseball Swept in Doubleheader at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Delaware baseball (21-23, 10-11 CAA) dropped both ends of a doubleheader, falling 8-5 in game one and 8-7 in game two to William & Mary (27-18, 11-10) on Saturday.
Game 1: Tribe 8, Blue Hens 5
Joey Silan allowed a run in the opening inning, but settled in following that, using the double play ball to get out of a few jams.
The Blue Hens offense struck in the middle innings. Andrew Amato drove in the first run on a double down the left field line in the fourth, and Joey Loynd and Jake Dunion followed with RBIs in the third to make it 3-1.
William & Mary briefly took the lead back before Loynd crushed a two-run homer to make it 5-4 Hens in the seventh.
The Tribe answered with four runs combined in the seventh and eighth innings, closing out the Blue Hens 8-5 in the ninth.
JJ Freeman went 4-for-5 in the opening game.
Game 2: Tribe 8, Blue Hens 7
The Blue Hens stormed for three runs in the opening inning on Freeman and Josearmando Diaz RBI hits, setting the tone for the game.
Anthony Gubitosi fired a scoreless inning in his first collegiate start. The Tribe scored a run on Tyler Strechay in the second.
Delaware added three more scores in the third and fourth, with Diaz knocking in one on an RBI triple and Loynd and Dunion driving in two more.
After a two-run William & Mary home run, Freeman knocked in another run with a single to make it a 7-4 spread.
Owen Margolis fired two scoreless frames before the lead was lost in the ninth, as the Tribe walked off by scoring four runs to take the second half of the doubleheader.
Freeman batted 7-for-9 with two RBIs in the doubleheader, while Diaz went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in the second game. Bryce Greenly, Dan Covino and Loynd all chipped in multiple hits in the final game.
The Hens do not have a midweek game, taking a break before hosting Stony Brook in another pivotal series beginning on Friday.
