Women's Lacrosse Defeated By Stony Brook In CAA Conference Tournament

TOWSON, Md. - Delaware women's lacrosse's season came to an end on Thursday, May 4 when they fell to No. 1 seeded and No. 11 nationally ranked Stony Brook in the semifinals of the CAA Conference Tournament, 18-6.
Lizzie Hsu scored three games for Delaware, while Lizzie Yurchak had a goal, an assist, two ground balls, and three draw controls. Morgan Gore and Laurel McHale also scored for Delaware, while Riley Gillin had an assist. Madison Hranicka, the CAA Defensive Player of the Year, had four ground balls and four caused turnovers, tying Becky Gohsler's Delaware CAA Tournament caused turnover game record of four in 2018. Danielle Livornese had five draw controls.
Delaware came out on fire to begin the game, scoring the first goal of the tournament and leading 3-1 less than 10 minutes in. Hsu scored the opening goal on Delaware's first possession before Stony Brook tied it up. Yurchak gave Delaware the lead back after scooping up a draw control and immediately scoring, and Hsu scored once more on a woman-up opportunity. Stony Brook scored in the final minute to make it 3-2, Delaware, after the end of the quarter.
Hsu picked up a first half hat trick to put Delaware up 4-2 early in the second. Stony Brook scored two straight to tie it, but Laurel McHale answered by scoring on a feed from Riley Gillin to make it 5-4. Stony Brook ended the half with three goals to take a 7-5 lead into halftime. Gore scored Delaware's sixth goal of the game on a free-position shot.
Hranicka ended her historic season with 50 caused turnovers and 43 ground balls. She is the fourth player in CAA history to have at least 50 caused turnovers, joining Sami Chenoweth (64, 2019) of Towson, Olivia Conti (52, 2018) of Towson, and Mairead Durkin (51) of James Madison. Livornese finished with 79 draw controls on the season, two shy of tying her and Becky Gohsler's (2018) record of 81. She now has 166 career caused turnovers, 20 shy of Gohsler's and McCartney's program record of 186. With Yurchak's two points today, she now has 98 for the year. Hsu ended the season with back-to-back hat tricks. Gore became the first Delaware freshman to score in a CAA Tournament game since Mia DeRuggiero in 2017.
