Gruber Stepping Down as Delaware Rowing Head Coach

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware Head Rowing Coach Kevin Gruber informed Director of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation Chrissi Rawak he will be stepping down from his role to pursue other opportunities, it was announced Monday.
"I'd like to thank Kevin for his 11 years of dedication to the University, our department and our rowing student-athletes," Rawak said. "He always put the student-athlete experience first and I am very grateful to him for that. During his tenure, his program produced in the classroom and has been recognized regionally for those accomplishments. I wish Kevin and his family the very best."
Gruber was named head coach of the program in August 2012, spending 11 seasons with the Blue Hens. He is the longest head coach in program history.Â
"The past 11 years have been very special to me both personally and professionally," Gruber said. "Thank you to the student-athletes, assistant coaches, administrators, and staff for making my time at UD so meaningful. I'm proud of everything we accomplished together, but it's the right time for a change. I'm grateful to have been a Blue Hen."
During his tenure, he led his teams to three third-place finishes at the CAA Championships, including this past season, and four fourth-place finishes. He has coached 17 All-CAA selections, four CAA All-Academic team selections, two CRCA All-Region selections, and 68 CRCA Scholar-Athletes, including a program record 12 in 2021 and 2022.Â
A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately.
