Albamonti Set To Compete At 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – All gas, no breaks! Megan Albamonti returns to Hayward Field today (July 6) as she will represent the University of Delaware track & field team at the 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships.
Albamonti is in Eugene, Ore. competing in the javelin throw for the second-straight year and will be looking to qualify for the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships scheduled to be held July 21-23 in San Jose, Costa Rica. A season ago on June 25, Albamonti watched her javelin fly through the Oregon air for 49.34m to finish the competition in 12th place. Albamonti is also one of two Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) athletes competing in the event (Jada Griffin, North Carolina A&T). Albamonti is scheduled to compete tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT.
HOW SHE GOT HERE
The Westerly, R.I native put together a stellar senior campaign as she embarks on the biggest stage. Albamonti is the Blue Hens' first CAA Field Athlete of the Year, the second top honoree since Victoria Caruso took home the Rookie of the Year honors in 2010. She threw over 50 meters in all eight competitions and captured four victories including being crowned her third consecutive gold medal at the 2023 CAA Outdoor Championships (May 5-6).
Albamonti's mark at Raleigh Relays proved good enough for her to qualify for her third-straight NCAA East Preliminary Round. As she continued to solidify her name in Delaware history, Albamonti launched her first attempt for 53.04m (third place finish) at regionals to become the first Blue Hen javelin thrower in program history to punch her ticket to nationals. Albamonti closed out the year by finishing in ninth place and collected Second Team All-America honors thanks to launching her implement through the air for 54.46m in her National Championship debut.
