Volleyball Sweeps Lamar To Go Undefeated at UTSA Tournament

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - University of Delaware volleyball swept Lamar (25-17, 25-10, 25-20) on the final day of the UTSA Tournament to finish the weekend with their second tournament victory in as many weeks. With the win, Delaware earned their sixth straight win to begin the season.Â

Savannah Seemans (MVP) - 12 sets played, 29 kills, four aces, 31 digs, nine blocks
Ezgi Basaranlar, - 12 sets played, nine kills, 123 assists, four aces, 19 digs, nine blocks
Madelyn Grunza - 12 sets played, 31 kills, .422 hitting percentage, nine blocks
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Lani Mason had a game-high 13 kills to go with six digs.Â
- Savannah Seemans had eight kills, 10 digs, and three blocks.Â
- Madelyn Grunza had seven kills and a .429 hitting percentage.
- Ezgi Basaranlar had 30 assists.
- Asia Murray had five blocks
- Eileen Gex had 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware erupted for an 11-1 start to begin the match, which included two aces and two kills for Mason.
- Two straight kills by Seemans helped push the lead to 17-5. Lamar scored seven of the next eight points to cut the lead down to six, but Delaware regained control to close out the set by scoring four of the final five points.Â
- Mason and Seemans both had three kills in the set.
- The Blue Hens again jumped out to an early lead at 9-4.
- Lamar scored consecutive points for the only time in the set before Delaware outscored them the rest of the way 16-4, including two separate 4-0 runs.Â
- Delaware hit .560 in the set, with Kirah Johnson recording five kills and Grunza picking up four.Â
- Both squads battled back-and-forth in the third set, and Lamar held a 19-18 lead as they looked to avoid a sweep.
- Delaware turned it on the rest of the way, and scored seven of the final eight points to finish off the set and match.Â
- Mason had seven kills in the third set.
GAME NOTES
- Basaranlar has had at least 30 assists in every game this season.Â
- Gex has had at least 10 digs in every game this season.Â
- Grunza has had at least a .345 hitting percentage in four straight games.Â
- Murray recorded her fourth-straight game with at least five blocks.Â
- Delaware is 6-0 for the first time since starting 10-0 in 2007. They finished that season 31-5 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.Â
