Oudshoorn's Hat Trick Propels Field Hockey Past Columbia

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware field hockey team went undefeated at Rullo Stadium over the weekend as the Blue Hens topped Columbia 4-2 in comeback fashion to start the year 2-0 on their home turf.

"A scenario we needed to experience with this young team, falling behind, refocusing and turning things around," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "Compliments to my players' group to stay the course and do what they are capable of doing. I'm proud of their ability to make the adjustments needed to fight off a very talented and efficient Columbia team."
"After four games into our regular season, our program can look back on having experienced all different scenarios we can expect moving forward this fall," continued van de Kerkhof. "These situations and scores will allow, with the help of video and conversation, this group of players to further develop individually and as a team."
HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Kiki Oudshoorn led the way for the Hens as the senior recorded a hat trick
- Noelle Sabbagh found the back of the cage for her third goal of the season
- Valentina Martorell added an assist to her ledger
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hens and Lions played a scoreless first quarter up until the final seconds when Oudshoorn found the back of the Columbia cage to put Delaware on top after headed into the second quarter
- The Blue Hens took the lead into the break, but post intermission, the Lions scored back-to-back goals almost 90 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead at the 35:56 mark
- In the fourth, the Blue & Gold scored three unanswered goals as Martorell connected with Sabbagh who tied the game at 2-2, followed by two unassisted goals from Oudshoorn to complete the comeback
GAME NOTES
- Oudshoorn's hat trick is her second in as many games
- Delaware continued to be efficient as the Hens scored four times out of their eight shots on frame
- With her three goals on Sunday, Oudshoorn has scored in all four games for the Blue Hens
