NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball lost to The College of Charleston in four sets (25-22, 17-25, 19-25, 23-25) on Sept. 30, 2023.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Savannah Seemans had a game-high 16 kills and recorded 13 digs.
- Madelyn Grunza had 15 kills and five blocks.
- Ezgi Basaranlar recorded 40 assists and 15 digs.
- Lani Mason had 10 kills and 14 digs.
- Eileen Gex had 17 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set featured nine ties and three lead changes. Charleston took a 12-8 lead after a 4-0 spurt, but Delaware responded with five straight points and eight of the next nine to Take a 17-14 lead.
- Charleston battled back to tie the set at 22, but the Blue Hens scored the final three points to claim the set.
- In the set, Seemans had six kills, Kirah Johnson and Grunza had five, and Basaranlar had 14 assists and seven digs.
- Both teams exchanged 4-0 runs early in the set, but a 5-0 run by the Cougars midway through the second lifted them to a 14-10 lead.
- With the score 20-16, Charleston scored five of the last six points of the set.
- Grunza had three kills and Basaranlar had eight assists.
- Delaware scored five straight points to take a 5-3 lead to begin the set. Charleston then took a 19-10 lead.
- A comeback attempt by Delaware saw them cut the lead to 21-17, but Charleston hung on to take a 2-1 lead.
- Mason led the team with three kills and four digs in the set while Basaranlar had seven assists.
- There were eight ties in the fourth set, and both teams were even at nine early on. Three straight points by Charleston gave them the lead, and they eventually led 16-11.
- Delaware began fighting back, cutting Charleston's lead down to one on four occasions before evening the score at 22 and 23. Charleston scored the final two points and took the match.
- Seemans had six kills in the final set, while Grunza had five. Basaranlar had 11 assists.
GAME NOTES
- Basaranlar recorded her third consecutive game with at least 40 assists, her second stretch this season with at least 40 assists in three-straight games (August 27 and Sept. 1 against Robert Morris, Tarleton St., and UTSA). She has recorded her fourth double-double of the season.
- Grunza has a combined 43 kills in her last three games, her most in any three-game stretch this season.
- Seemans' 16 kills were a season-best and her most since having 20 on Oct. 24, 2021, also against Charleston. She recorded her third double-double of the year.
- Gex has recorded double-digit kills in 12 of 13 games.
- Mason recorded her fourth consecutive double-double and eighth of the season.
