Trio of Victories Shines As Track & Field Open 2024 At Lions Indoor Invitational

NEW YORK -Â Â The University of Delaware track & field team opened the 2024 calendar year Friday morning at the Lion Indoor Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey. Head Coach Kenyetta Iyevbele took her flock of 23 Blue Hen athletes ready to compete in 12 events up to the world-famous Armory in New York City, a track they are previewing ahead of the 2024 CAA Indoor Championship. The meet was headlined by a trio of victories in the 500m, shot put and 4x400m relay.

- The Blue Hen victories came off the hands of Jenna Scandale in the 500m, Kosie Nkwonta in the shot put and the 4x400m relay team consisting of Scandale, Kadence Dumas, Victoria Henry and Lauren Leath.
- Scandale posted a personal-best time of 1:17.19 before ending her day running the first leg of the 4x400m.
- After opening the day in the weight throw (16.75m, third place overall), Nkwonta led the way in the shot put with a season-best mark of 12.94m.
- The 4x400m squad saw Dumas and Leath competing for the first time in their collegiate career as Henry saw action earlier in the 60m dash (prelim time: 7.76, sixth place; finals time: 7.84, seventh place). The relay team finished in 3:56.51.

- Jahnia Hodge: 60m prelims time 7.92 (seventh place); 60m finals: PR time 7.83 (sixth place overall)
- Taylor Johnson: 60m prelims time 7.94 (eighth place); 60m finals: 7.82 (fifth place overall); 200m: 25.94 (fourth place overall)
- Jayde McDermid: 200m: PR time 26.60 (12th place overall)
- Jacquelyn Rolle: collegiate debut; 60m prelims time: 7.99 (ninth place); 60m finals time: PR time 7.87 (eighth place overall); 200m: PR time 26.15 (eighth place overall)
- Sara Manson: collegiate debut; 200m: PR time 27.18 (18th place overall)
- Chali Baumann: collegiate debut; long jump: PR mark 5.23m (second place overall)
- Hodge: triple jump: 11.23m (third place overall)
- Manson: triple jump: 10.66m (seventh place overall)
- Madison Shaffery: high jump: PR mark of 1.57m (10th place overall)
- Mackenzie Stephens: weight throw: PR throw 14.41m (sixth place overall)
- Destiny DeBlock: 500m: PR time 1:23.16 (10th place overall); high jump: 1.62m (second place overall)
- Sarah Sharp: collegiate debut; 500m: PR time 1:21.13 (sixth place overall); high jump: PR mark 1.42m (19th place overall)
- The Blue Hen 4x400m relay team consisting of Johnson, McDermid, Rolle and Dougherty finished the race in 4:10.81 (fifth place overall)
- Henry's 60m dash preliminary time sits tied for 10th in school history.
- The Blue Hens set 16 new personal-best times/marks
- 11 athletes made their collegiate debut in the Blue & Gold uniform during the indoor season
UP NEXT
The Blue Hens will return to action Friday, Jan. 26 and will head to Brighton, Mass. to compete in the River Hawk Invitational, hosted by UMass Lowell.
