Men’s Basketball Narrowly Falls on National TV at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – In a narrowly fought contest Sunday afternoon on CBS Sports Network, the University of Delaware men's basketball team came up just short at UNCW, 79-74. The Blue Hens drop to 10-7 overall and 2-2 in league play, while the Seahawks move to 11-5, 2-2 CAA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Gerald Drumgoole Jr. led the team with 16 points, making it 36 points on the North Carolina road trip.
- Jyáre Davis notched his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
- Niels Lane and Cavan Reilly each tallied 12 points, with the former adding seven boards.
- Christian Ray tied Davis with a game-high 10 rebounds. He also contributed five points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware scored first and held a 4-2 lead after the initial three possessions. It was nearly back and forth until the home team went 7-0 to go up 15-10. Delaware answered with back-to-back triples from Tyler Houser and Riley to send UD into the under-12 break up 16-15. It was more of the same through the first half buzzer with the Seahawks up, 38-36.
- UNCW held a slight 8-7 advantage through the opening 4:20 of the second half. The Hens claimed 10 of the next 17 points to make it a one-point game at the under-12 media break, 55-54. The Hens held UNCW scoreless for over two minutes to regain the lead at 59-57, which forced a timeout from the Seahawks. Forty-four seconds and a pair of triples later, it was a Delaware timeout down four. Down but not out, the Hens pulled it back within one at 66-65 with 5:11 remaining after holding the hosts scoreless for close to four minutes. The Hens ultimately wouldn't be able to overcome the deficit.
GAME NOTES
- Zion Bethea made his Blue Hen debut after missing the first portion of the season with a knee injury.
