Davis, Drumgoole Jr. Lead Men’s Basketball to Strong Second-Half Comeback

NEWARK, Del. – Jyáre Davis tallied two new career-highs Thursday night as his 29 points and 17 rebounds led the University of Delaware men's basketball team to a 71-68 comeback victory over Stony Brook. The Blue Hens move to 11-7, 3-2 CAA on the season, while the Seawolves drop to 9-9 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Davis is the first Blue Hen since at least 2010-11 to post 29 points and 17 rebounds in a game.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Davis went 8-for-14 overall and a perfect 12-for-12 on the evening.
- Gerald Drumgoole Jr. finished with 17 points for his third-straight game with at least 10.
- Niels Lane totaled 12 points, going 5-for-6 from the line.
- Delaware finished 19-of-22 (86.4 percent) from the line, all of which came in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Drumgoole Jr. opened the night's scoring with a second chance layup at the 19:18 mark. After a Keenan Fitzmorris dunk gave Stony Brook a 7-4 lead, Drumgoole Jr. knocked down a trey sparking a 10-0 Delaware' run to give the Hens a 17-7 lead with 13:52 left in the first. Stony Brook used a 16-6 margin from 13:33 to the 5:29 mark to erase its 10-point deficit and knot the game at 23 apiece with 5:13 to go. The Seawolves ended the first half on a 12-0 spurt to take a 35-25 halftime lead.
- Delaware continued to struggle in the second half until back-to-back buckets from Drumgoole Jr. made it a one possession game at 41-38 with 14:37 left. By the 10:18 mark, Stony Brook built up a 51-43 lead, but Delaware cut into the deficit and eventually made it a 55-54 contest. A trey from Lane knotted the game at 57-57 at the 4:45 mark. After an and-one from Andre Snoddy put the Seawolves back in front, Tyler Houser knocked down a triple of his own to tie the game at 60 with 3:48 left. At the 1:20 mark, Davis hit a step-back jumper to give the Hens the lead for good as Delaware closed out the contest.
GAME NOTES
- Delaware's 12-point deficit was the second largest deficit the Hens have overcome this season.
- The Blue Hens are 3-0 on Thursdays this season and improve to 10-0 on the year when holding opponents to under 70 points.
