Women's Lacrosse Surge Past UMBC with Strong Defensive Effort in Second Half

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team would turn to their defense in the second half to sneak UMBC in the home opener, 9-6.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS:

Callie Drab would record 4 points, scoring two goals and assisting on two goals.
For the second game in a row, the Hens had seven goal scorers.
Jaclyn Marszal would add two goals, giving her seven on the season.
For the second game in a row, Steph Marszal would record double digit saves with 11, eight of them occurring in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Morgan Gore struck first with a goal under two minutes into the contest.
UMBC would score four unanswered goals to end the first quarter to go up 4-1.
The Hens would outscore the Retrievers 3-1 in the second quarter.
Riley Gillin, Keira Grant, and Jaclyn Marszal would score in the third quarter, and the Hens would keep the Retrievers scoreless.
A turnover in front of UMBC's goal allowed Jaclyn Marszal to score on an empty net assisted by Drab.
The Blue Hens would only give up one goal in the second half, outscoring the Retrievers 5-1 in the final 30 minutes of action.

GAME NOTES:

Freshman Maddy Mobilia and Kat Baseggio started on defense for the second game in a row.
The Hens are 2-0 on the season for the second year in a row.
